You may have received an email from Global Vibrations Inc. telling you that their company "could not find your sitemap". We received such an email about this very website. The email was funny at first because we do have a Google sitemap on this site as well as all our company websites. All of our websites follow Google's recommended format for a sitemap.
If this company could not find our sitemap they are either incompetent or they are trying to scare people with carefully worded emails. Notice Global Vibrations email is NOT saying that we don't have a sitemap. They are saying that they couldn't find our sitemap.
That's like saying a taxi driver couldn't find the Empire State Building in midtown Manhattan.
Email Marketing Ethics
On second thought, I was concerned that people who don't understand what a sitemap is could be mislead into using their services when in fact their sitemap was in place and just fine.
The email from Global Vibrations Inc could be taken a number of ways:
1. They claim to be able to assist companies create Google compliant sitemaps but their automated email program and sitemap detection program is broken and sending out wrong emails.
2. They are scraping emails and sending misleading emails to people scaring them into thinking they are doing something wrong. They are not checking for the existence of a sitemap and just sending emails.
3. They are not scraping emails from websites and are just sending out misleading emails.
4. They are not scraping emails from websites and are just sending out misleading emails due to faulty software.
Global Vibrations Email
Since I have received numerous emails from this company in the past I decided that enough was enough. My clients have also received similar emails. I think the data will support that Global Vibrations is repeatedly sending out misleading emails. The reason is unknown. What they are doing is not illegal but I question the ethics of their email marketing tactics.
I decided to investigate if other people on the Internet felt the same way. I'll let you decide about the marketing tactics of Global Vibrations Inc from my research below. The data shows that other consumers have complained about these emails and if this company is checking Google, this email practice would have been corrected, if not done on purpose.
It seems that other people have been getting email from this company. Here is an article to read. Global Vibration Emails. Here are some other links to further research this company:
Global Vibrations Email I Received
The highlighted text below is the email I received from Global Vibrations:
As I was on http://www.seonj.com this
morning, I was unable to locate a "Google Sitemap file" on
your website.
I am not referring to a regular "site map" for people to
visit online, but rather to a script which helps Google to
read and index your website's overall content. I advise you
to visit us online where we explain clearly what a "Google
Sitemap file" is and what you need to do to get one:
http://www.zoptimization.com/sitemap
A Sitemap file is a "code" placed in the root directory of
your website which captures all the crucial information
about your website, thus facilitating the crawling and
indexing process for Google.

Finding a Google Sitemap
Now, if anyone knows about sitemaps, the first place to look is the root directory of the website for a file called sitemap.xml. If you do that on my website, you will see that it exists. http://www.seonj.com/sitemap.xml
Global Vibrations could not find the Google Sitemap and as a matter of fact I also have a Yahoo sitemap in place.
My opinion:
I would steer clear of this company based on their tactics and the feedback I read on the Internet. This company also has a website at: www.mseo.com
